Famed country singer Jimmie Rodgers was born in Meridian: this “father of country music” is showcased at the Jimmie Rodgers Museum.

The annual Neshoba County Fair offers a unique look into our state’s traditions, and the Silver Star Casino welcomes those who like to try their luck. Mississippi State University and the Mississippi University for Women are two of the state’s celebrated educational institutions.

Recreation
Explore the northern part of the gorgeous Natchez Trace Parkway in the Pines Region, or visit one of the many area state parks for outdoor fun.

Home to a number of rivers including part of the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway, anglers often catch their fill of bass, catfish, crappie and panfish.

Beautiful forests and waterways make Pines Region golf courses some of the best in the southeast U.S. Three of Golf Digest’s top ten Mississippi courses are found here including the #1 Old Waverly Golf Club, #2 Dancing Rabbit’s The Azaleas Course and #7 Dancing Rabbit’s The Oaks Course.

Climate
With its largely subtropical climate, Mississippi’s weather is often mild with temperatures rarely dipping below 40 degrees F in the coldest months. Summers boast plenty of warmth, and temperatures often reach 100 degrees F. Coastal breezes offer some cooling outdoor relief. August and September boast the highest humidity levels of the year, averaging 90%. While spring boasts the highest rainfall potential, December and January are often wet, as snowfall in the north translates to rain here in Mississippi.
